Xi'an Cloudy at 19°C on October 1 with Rain Arriving on the Night of October 2: Exit Points and Weather Bias for Autumn Birding

The National Meteorological Centre's 08:00 forecast on October 1 shows cloudy conditions and 13–19°C in Xi'an on October 1, cloudy 14–22°C weather with light rain at night on October 2, and overcast 13–22°C weather on October 3. This guide translates the holiday forecast into departure, exit, clothing and recording decisions for urban parks and the northern Qinling foothills without treating weather as a bird-sighting forecast.

How to plan October 1

Cloudy conditions and a 19°C maximum are much cooler than the preceding heat. Put the main urban-park effort into the first two hours after sunrise and before evening, with a light warm layer for temperatures near 13°C. Cloud does not guarantee more birds; wind, rain, habitat and disturbance still govern autumn observations.

Holiday crowds and parking pressure may change a route before the weather does. Choose sites with public transport, a clear entrance and fixed paths, plus one urban alternative. Do not chase online sightings across districts during the day.

Set an exit point before the October 2 night rain

October 2 is forecast cloudy by day with light rain at night. A northern-Qinling or waterside route therefore needs a final turnaround point and return time before departure. End early when cloud base lowers, wind changes, roads become wet or staff advise a change; do not wait for rain to begin.

Before rain, avoid gorges, river flats, reservoir shores, unstable slopes and side roads with weak phone coverage. Park only legally, keep walkers together, and prioritise rain gear, spare socks, a warm drink and power bank over another camera accessory.

Record weather-related detection bias

Note date, start and end time, cloud, apparent temperature, wind, precipitation, effective effort and crowd level. A short list may reflect detection range, activity or observer effort and should not be reported as a decline in bird abundance.

Mark sound-only records and leave uncertain birds unresolved. Never use playback to force a view, and do not live-share a precise position when birds briefly gather before rain. Bird welfare still comes first in a short weather window.
