Why an end date is not automatic reopening

The official notice says the Mudflat Bird Hide was suspended from August 26 through September 30 for exhibition-gallery and visitor-facility improvements. It also states that activities and arrangements are subject to the park's same-day announcement. The end date is a planning milestone, not permission to assume an unlocked door.

Before travelling on October 1, check the homepage, visitor-facility notice and today's advisory. If suspension, fencing or no explicit reopening confirmation remains, treat the hide as closed. Do not rely on an old guide, search snippet or somebody's photograph from the previous day.

Plan an outing that does not depend on one hide

List the Mudflat Bird Hide as 'confirmation required' and use the official map to identify a visitor centre, boardwalk or other viewpoint confirmed open that day. Allow walking time and carry binoculars, water, weather protection and simple recording gear rather than a large setup that obstructs passage.

Ask staff for the latest status and alternative route on arrival. If works, bird activity, weather or capacity closes an area, switch immediately to a public route. A facility closure never authorises approach from a side path, vegetation or water edge.

Responsible birding during works and migration

Barriers, work vehicles and maintenance signs are safety boundaries. Do not extend a lens, tripod or body past fencing, gather in a narrow corridor or follow staff vehicles in search of an internal entrance. Observe quietly and leave passage space for others.

Name the public facility actually used in the checklist, and do not report access-related non-detection as a decline in birds. Remove coordinates from photographs and retain only park-level locality for sensitive records. Whether the hide reopens or not, never feed, use playback or fly a drone.
