Forty birds were professionally released, not forty natural arrivals

The authority says 40 rehabilitated birds were released in habitat-appropriate batches on September 20. Wetland birds included Black Stork, Eurasian Spoonbill, Black-winged Stilt and Ruddy Shelduck; raptors included Cinereous Vulture, Steppe Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Common Kestrel, Eurasian Hobby and Amur Falcon. Two Black Storks were nationally first-class protected animals.

These birds have a documented rescue and release history. They must not be reported as 40 wild migrants arriving naturally that day, and the release count cannot prove growth of a local wild population. Mark records as rehabilitated release birds and retain the event date and official source.

Identify from a combination of field marks

Adult Black Storks are large, with a white belly, mainly black glossy plumage and reddish bill and legs. Eurasian Spoonbills are mostly white with a long, flat, spoon-tipped bill. Black-winged Stilts combine extremely long pink legs with bold black and white. Do not identify from one colour in poor light.

Steppe Eagle and other large eagles require size, wing and tail shape, age and flight posture together. Amur Falcon, Common Kestrel and Eurasian Hobby cannot be separated merely because they are small and fast. 'Unidentified eagle' or 'unidentified falcon' is better than false precision.

Boundaries after release

An event site is not a permanent birding location, and the birds may move quickly. Do not pursue by vehicle, encircle, feed, use playback or launch a drone. Never live-share a rehabilitation facility, tracking operation or subsequent resting place.

If a possible release bird appears in a legal public area, note time, park- or county-level locality, behaviour and condition. Report injury, inability to fly or crowding through local forestry or rescue authorities. Do not capture, move or release the bird again yourself.
